Kathy glanced at the notifications again, all of them from her sister Cait. They’d come in throughout the day while she was attending the conference. Ping. Ping. PING. Each one distracting her, making her stutter and stumble. She hadn’t looked at them, but she could guess what they contained. She knew where Cait was and who Cait was with.
Her younger sister, always so eager to prove she was as good or better. Competing for their parent’s attention had shaped their interactions as adults. Kathy the good, obedient and successful one. Cait, wild and rebellious, always getting into trouble. But now, she had found the perfect way to win.
The day had dragged agonizingly slowly. Cait had told her what she was going to do as soon as she heard Kathy was going to this conference. A conference Kathy had to attend, one that could make her reputation in the industry.
The look on her face as she’d said it, so pleased with herself, so sure it would work, her voice gloating with self-satisfaction. And worst of all, Kathy thought it would. Everyone always wanted Cait…
